True  Love                                       by   David  I. Fox

They came from different worlds it seemed,
 He was very vain,
 She saw beyond that though,
 She thought herself too plain.
She knew it was true love
 From the very start,
She saw in him what most could not
 Deep down in her heart;
And even though he could not explain
He loved her very much the same.
 So there's hope, my friends,
 Who love yourselves too much;
 You will find true love
 When your heart is touched.

August                                                     by    Bea  Davis

looks like summer

sends dazzling

chrome yellow rays

to light gardens in

candescent color

conspires with autumn

hides what it is about

butterflies flaunt

elegant wings

proliferate, expire

days turn

like calendar pages

on a movie screen

gobbled by time

move rapidly into a

hungry open maw

thrown off ballast

we spin

towards the inevitable

Genetic   Clasp                                                      by    Bea  Davis

plump cheeks, cherubic mouth
feathery wisps of reddish-gold hair
deep blue eyes trustful, calm
a tiny hand grasps my finger
I fold his smile into memory
feel a profound tenderness
for this child of my child’s child

images wind through my mind
settle in small shining
pools of nostalgia
silken threads of reminiscences
ripple in my ear, lace together years
of family, children, grandchildren
bring me to this moment
I hold close in my arms
this child of my child’s child

Wedding    Scene              by    Bea  Davis

Sea, land, painted by sun.
Crystalline air threaded
with joy. Breezes perfumed
with summer. Cloudless blue
sky. Bride, groom, radiant as
a garden in full blossom.
Remnants of darkness
long gone, in their place
hearts wrapped in
ribbons of happiness.
Children hold the bridal
canopy under which their parents
exchange vows of love. In
this moment of transition witness
their embrace of profound tenderness.

ANOTHER  FRIDAY  MORNING  IN  FARMINGDALE          by   Yolanda  Coulaz

Long before the bells of St. Killian's call,

long before commuters start their day

and children come out to play

I run a little late, a little longer

at the track at Howitt Middle School

Last night's cloudburst

left these puddles I must dance around,

left these breezes that bear the weight of my sweat,

make my every exhale a cloud of their own.

I run, hide my fear, show my breath

to this mid-June morning.

I circle the soccer field sixteen times,

squishing the moist cinder under my feet,

chasing the invisible brass ring.

As I write this poem, sun disturbs my thoughts.

Something diesel idles nearby,

something I do not see or hear,

but when it comes to matters of the nose,

I'm never wrong.

The heavy scent of frying fish

escapes from the kitchen of Fabio's,

filters through the shield

of the chain link fence, tells me Friday is here.

There at the corner of Franklin and Conklin,

they gather, day laborers loitering,

looking for work. I used to be like them,

lingering, waiting for my poems to come,

but they seldom did. Now I run,

chasing poems, riding carousels,

in the mornings when no one can see.

The    End   of   Nothing               by        Lynn   Cohen

That cool spring night
poetry played

music of long ago

You held me forbiddingly

kissed me in the foreshadows

of today's pain

I know I knew you
in the glistening snow

the icy paths

among the Red Warriors

banging basketballs

espousing Kierkegaard and Sartre

"In our Time"

when "Church Going"

became a memory,

and I loved a priest-to-be

and a man who loved other men.

Now

how can something that never was

hurt so much?

Hey------------------,            by    Boris  White

To you a pleasant day,
The same to you and you and you.
Rake in that pleasure,
Let nothing else seize yuh.
Grab hold,
Take that ride,
Unfold,
Give positives,
The proper role.
Slide, to what ąs inside,
New realms into which to glide.

Fandangled Quadrilateral

Mono-colored, multi-angled
Fan-dangled quadrilateral,
Not hexagonal, a diamond in red,
A reminder of cards handled, rearranged,
As I am shackled by the habitual reminder
Of the hold of highs, held firmly in my mind.

A straights taste
The flushes rush,
A full houses rousing thunder,
A royal flushes rush to heavenąs gates,
Oh God have mercy!  Oh for that taste!
Always back again for more,
These combinations grab my core.

Always shuffled,
Randomly placed,
What combo seals my fate?
Giddy, riding that tide,
Flying high,
Iąm swept under its spell.

Those slanted patterns,
That make me gyrate,
Whirl me with anticipation,
Thatąs my fate.
Steel myself for the onslaught,
I'm caught.

The Crevasse

There it is:
This crevasse,
This gaping hole in the earth.

This is my chance,
To enhance, my life,
By dumping,
All the accumulations of a lifetime,
The clutter, the debris,
That I had stockpiled overtime,.

Itąs time to get rid of it,
Clear out the muddle,
Once and for All.
I wonąt stall!
Iąll do it now!

Floaters

Floaters, floaters, float on by,
Floaters, floaters, long and lithe,
Moving, moving, through my eye.
Floaters saying, ˛Iąm not shy.˛

Hundreds zigzagging all over the place,
Meeting numerous pleasant shapes.
Hereąs a long-lean man swinging his arm,
Somersaulting along, looks quite calm.

Now, he is hanging onto a tree,-----
Swinging along for all to see.
Floaters, floaters, long and lithe,
Gliding, sailing, drifting by.

Et tu

Take note itąs the vote
That flavors what each and every
Politician says!
Let  this be a lesson to each
And every one of us.

Some of the fault lies with us,
For we perpetrate their dishonesty---
By pressing our selfish agendas over
The interest of environ and society.
Let  this be a lesson taught to each
And every one of us.

So set the course and push
Ahead  with every bit of force-
Aiming not at self-gain but at
The namesakes and frameworks
Of ŚGoodness  and  Honestyą.
This  should be what
Lifeąs  lessons have taught to each
And every one of us.

Save   Nunley  's   Carousel       by    Victoria   Crosby

A Merry Go Round, a  Carousel,
by any name we remember it well.
Up and down on the horses we'd  ride
and waved to our parents
as they beamed with  pride.

The music and the flashing lights
were all part of the  carousel's  delights.
In everyone's  childhood I am sure they could tell
a  story of riding a carousel.
Riding a lion or tiger, round and round they'd  chase,
some moved up and down, some stayed in place.
These are memories we all share
of our own youth and our  children, at the fair.

Years ago Nunley's  carousel was taken down,
and moved far  away to another town
where the horses languished in a storage shed.
Then a  smart young schoolgirl read
of the fate of the horses and decided to  raise
some funds, which won her lots of deserving praise.

But although her efforts were resourceful and brave,
it  takes lots more money to save
this historic treasure, and restore
it to  the way it was before.

We need benefactors who will provide
the funds so that  children can then ride
and feel the magic and wonder
that we know so well,
the joy of riding the  carousel.
So please use creativity
as the children have shown
And start a fundraising effort of  your own.

Invisible   Cargo       by   Mindy  Kronenberg

Midnight after class,
where we talked of
words jumbled into
puzzles, pulled into epics,
mapped into landscapes,

my car's a silent witness
to the rumble of trucks
as it sits on the shoulder
of the LIE, awaiting
rescue. In cold darkness

I search the road
for pulsing red lights,
the flatbed lowering its arms
to raise me up and
haul my cargo home.

The warmth of earlier voices, the comfort
of arranging words stays muffled,
but the glow of a folded page
beats with a small heart
in my pocket

where even the cop
and the tow man
can't hear it,
and it stays my secret
until this poem.

The  Plutocracy  is  my  shepherd;  I  shall  always  lack.

Their  weapons  of   mass  destruction  makes  me  work  on  corporate-controlled  plantations.

Their  medical  gangsters control  me  with  pharmaceuticals  and  surgery.

They  enslave  my  spirituality    (from  obstructing   injustice).

Their  corrupt  politicians  lead  me  down  the path  of  their  right-wing  righteousness.

In  the  name  of  their  National Security      (in  my  spirit  I  pledge  no  allegiance).

I  walk  under  the  shadow  of  power  of  these  corporate  pirates,  and  I   fear  their  evil

(they  are  political  gargoyles  clinging  to  the  unholy  temple  of  corporate  greed).

Their  Homeland  Security  agents  are  constantly  with  me.

Their  iron  fist  and  iron  heel  of   technology  discomfort  me.

They  plan  my  meals  while  I  am  present  in  their  detention  camps.

These  war  profiteers  anoint  all  vehicles  with  oil  from  innocent  blood    (unjustifiable   genocide).

My  cup of  civil  liberties  has  run dry.

Surely,  police-state  harassment  and  torture  shall  follow  me  all  the  days  of  my  life.

In Rita’s wake,

still crying for Katrina victims,

we have turned our backs,

or perhaps just closed our minds

and muffled our ears

in an effort of self preservation.

Whatever the reasons

excuses are null

with neighbors in need.

In our own back yard

people were rescued from rooftops,

some swept downstream.

While media still drones

about devastation

thousands of miles away

we are shielded

from news of our neighbors

Many of you know that Roy and I had planned to move upstate a few years ago and, for business reasons, were unable to do so. Several weeks ago the town of Deposit  (my town) and surrounding upstate areas suffered severe flood damage. These are my friends and neighbors. Many people are still without power or hot water, some without homes at all. Many had no insurance and cannot rebuild. The downtown area suffered great damage to its only movie theatre and supermarket, and numerous other businesses. To date some have not yet reopened. Photos and news at: www.depositchamber.com

My job, my current time-crunch on completing my upcoming anthology for Loving Touch animal rescue, and other obligations have kept me from making my way to the area to personally help out. My current financial situation leaves me little after mortgage payments and other bills and, although I have managed to put together a sizeable donation, I feel that it’s just not enough.

In an effort to bring these flood victims what they need most I am offering my book of poetry, Spirits and Oxygen, for $17.00 ($3.00 off the bookstore price). This price includes postage and handling and applicable sales tax. In addition I will donate $3.00, for each book sold, to the flood victims of Deposit and surrounding areas. If you already have my book or are not interested, perhaps you know someone who is, and you can pass on this information. The holidays are coming, and books are great gifts for poetry lovers.

Send a check or money order in the amount of $17.00 payable to:

Purple Sage Press

If you have no interest in the book but would like to make a donation please send a check or money order (any amount would be greatly appreciated) payable to:

Rev. Craig Gommer, Council of Churches

Either or both should be mailed c/o:

Walking  Tour ; Walt  Whitman's Brooklyn
The literary scholar Harold  Bloom said that Whitman was the only American
writer who could be put in  the same class as Shakespeare. Whitman's was an art
that tried to encompass all  the world around him, the high, the low, and
everything in between. And it was  Brooklyn , he said, that nurtured his spirit.
America 's Bard is forever  associated with the city in which he lived and
wrote for so many years. On our  walk we will take in sites associated with
Whitman's life and writings,  architectural reminders of his Brooklyn era, and
examples of his influence.
Guide:  Author, teacher, and historian, Francis Morrone.
Meet  at the northwest corner of Court and Montague Streets. $10 for members,
$15 for non-members. No  reservation required.

JULY  12TH: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) -  Original name NeftalĂ
Ricardo Reyes Basoalto

If You Forget Me
I want you to know
one thing.

You know how  this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the  slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable  ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little  boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop  loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not  look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it  long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and  you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each  day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with  implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to  seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in  me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love,  beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving  mine.

HAT   =   High-School  Audio  Theatre   HAT  =  HIGH-SCHOOL  AUDIO  THEATRE     High school Audio Theatre  =  HAT

Coming   soon   from  X-Cursion  Media

HAT    (High-School   Audio  Theatre)

I'm  starting  an  organization  that  will introduce  teenagers  to  the  art  and  medium  of  audio theatre via  workshops.
I   wanted  to  have  an  audio play competition among  several high schools here in Suffolk County  (parochial  and private
included),  but  that's an evolutionary process.    HAT  will help  me  meet  teenagers  AND their parents  outside of schools
in local public  libraries,  YMCAs,   and  other venues to get teenagers interested in audio theatre (formerly known as radio
theatre).    Once  HAT chapters are  started in the various school districts in Suffolk County, then I'll resurrect the audio play
contest.    HAT chapters will  NOT  be limited  to  Suffolk County, I'm hoping it will catch on in Nassau County.
My HAT workshops will teach the following:

The  history of  radio theater  (who started it and  what year)
How to write an audio play script
Sound effects  (SFX)  in  audio theatre
Music  and  audio theatre
General  information  about  the Audio theater industry                             BUT    HERE'S   THE   QUESTION...

What  are  the practical  applications  of  audio  theatre  for  the   21st  Century?

IF  you  can  voice  act,  then  you  can  also  do...

You'll  be  able  to  read   better     (your  diction    AND   reading  comprehension  will   improve)

You'll  be  able  to  deliver      ORAL   REPORTS   in  your  classes   with  more  confidence

Voice  acting  can  lead  to  work in  the  Entertainment industry:
Voiceovers    -    voices  for  cartoon  or  animated  characters    -     television  &  radio  commercials.

RADIO   COMMERCIALS...

You've  heard  radio theatre  most of your life and  probably  didn't  realize  it.
You've  heard  radio commercials  that  were  disguised  skits.     You've  heard  Smokey
the  Bear  commercials  on  the radio.   You've  heard  people  doing  funny voices integrated with
music  and  sound effects...that's  audio  (radio)  theatre.

Audio theatre  is  NOT  an ancient  art form.   Audio theatre (radio theatre)  ALWAYS  addresses CONTEMPORARY
social   and  scientific  issues!     Audio theatre  can  be  purely educational  or  entertaining  or  a combination of
both.     Montage Radio Theatre  tries to do a variety of genres  (Twilight Zone-type plays, comedy, satire, science
fiction, horror, fantasy, suspense, adventure...DRAMA...GO  TO     www.bradleyphoenix.com/playsandskits.html

About  the  audio play contest  among  high school  students  in various towns...

DONATIONS    TO   THE    HELEN   KELLER   SERVICES    FOR   THE   BLIND

I   met   with   Matt  Campo,  Director  of  Development,  Helen Keller  National  Center, Sands Point, NY.  on  July 8th, 2005.   What  came  out  of  that  meeting:   I  learned  about  HKNC's  school for the blind and deaf.   Their  equipment  for their students is very expensive (but  necessary).   Montage Radio Theatre has donated some of  its  audio plays to their library.   X-Cursion  Media will help in anyway I can in audio theatre productions;  some  of  the will  be  students at  HKNC.    If   HKNC  needs  plays and skits for fundraising, Montage Radio Theatre  will  gladly donate  some of  its  scripts.   The  X-Cursion Media  website  will  help  to  bring  awareness  to  HKNC  and  encourage  individuals and  organizations  to make  direct  dontations to  the  HKNC.     What  is the  connection  for  what  I  do  (audio theatre)  to   the  Helen Keller Services for the Blind?     The  connection  is  this:   One  doesn't  need  eyes  to   enjoy  audio (radio)  plays.   I  wanted  to  support  a  charity that  I  feel  "connects"  with  what  I  do.    I  choose  the  Helen Keller  Services for the Blind.

                        God  bless,   Bradley  Thunderbird Phoenix

                                                    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Portions  of  the  proceeds  from  leasing  X-Cursion Media scripts  will  be  donated  to:
The  Helen  Keller  Services  for  the  Blind.
X-Cursion Media  is set  up  for  making  donations  to  the  Helen Keller  Services for the  Blind, but
there  are   several  details  that  must  be  worked  out.     We  will  keep  the  visitors  to this site  informed.
We're  going  to  have  specific  goals  for EACH  year.     X-Cursion Media's  goal is  to  raise  $4,000.00
for   2006.     That  money will be  given to  the Helen Keller  National  Headquarters in  Sands  Point,
Long Island, NY.    Reports  will  be  given  to  update everyone  on  how  much  money  was  raised.
So,   when   someone   does   any   of   the    following:

                       1.   Leases  X-Cursion Media  scripts                                 -      www.bradleyphoenix.com/lease.html

                       2.   Purchases  X-Cursion Media  audio plays  online        -      www.bradleyphoenix.com/purchasing.html

                       3.   X-Cursion  Media  Garage  Sales  and  Auctions         -      www.bradleyphoenix.com/garage.html

Portions  of the  proceeds  of  X-Cursion Media  will  be  DONATED  to  the Helen Keller Services for the Blind
(more  details  will follow:   addresses,  contacts,  etc.  in  the  weeks to come).

The  goal   for  the  remainder  of  this  year  (2007)    is:   $4,000    (four  thousand  dollars).
