Don Pruden Jr., indie film director & writer
At a radio theatre recording session
Don is currently working on two documentaries, but he expressed an interest in
directing five of my original scripts.
I showed him a list of my scripts, just like I am showing you, the reader.
I worked with Don at an insurance business here on Long Island. Don played
the husband in my audio play:
"The DeathSHIP Cometh". Here's a sample of
this two-character audio play:

I'm glad Don wants to direct some of my scripts as indie films, I believe that
he's an upcoming director and will be a
world-famous motion picture filmmaker in the near future. But right now,
ANY indie film producer can contact me regarding
turning one of my scripts into an independent film. Even major
motion picture corporations are welcome to contact me.
I have two contracts that I co-developed with my lawyer that I retained through
the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts in Manhattan,
New York. One contract is for high schools, colleges, science
fiction conventions, churches, organizations, and theatre
troupes and companies to LEASE my scripts to perform on stage or over the radio
and/or internet. The other contract is
for indie film companies and producers to produce specific scripts that I wrote
(all of my scripts are registered with the
Writers Guild of America, East or registered with the Library of
Congress).
I've written over 100 original
scripts of various genres:
Twilight Zone-type stories, science
fiction, horror, suspense, satire, comedy, and DRAMA.
I write screenplays, stage plays and
contemporary radio (audio) plays.
* All of my scripts are registered with the Writers Guild of America and my entertainment lawyer co-developed my two play-licensing contracts.

Harlan Ellison's work inspired James Cameron's "Terminator" movies.
To receive a thank-you letter from Mr. Ellison, was one of the greatest thrills
in my life! :)
WHY DO
I WRITE CONTEMPORARY RADIO PLAYS?
Answer: My first love is filmmaking. I wanted to
be Stanley Kubrick. I started out writing
poetry and then short stories in the 1970's. I played around with an
8 mm camera, my father had,
an old Bell & Howell camera. Since film was expensive, I didn't have
a video camera, and I was a
big fan of the Firesign Theatre (the American counterpart to the British
Monty Python's Flying Circus),
I decided to write modern radio plays (audio plays...no visual components).
I wrote and produced
radio plays in the mid-1970's even though I took acting classes and television &
film classes in
college. Over the years I evolved and matured as a writer.
Since I grew up watching the Twilight Zone,
the Outer Limits, One Step Beyond, Star Trek, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and
reading DC comic books,
I ultimately created a contemporary audio play anthology series called: X-Cursion
(Excursion).
X-Cursion is also a salute to the radio play series during the Golden Age of
Radio: Dimension X,
Escape, The Mysterious Traveler, Suspense, Lux Radio Theatre, and X-Minus One.
Some people
scrunch up their face when you mention the phrase, "RADIO THEATRE".
But many great writers
listened to and wrote radio plays: Rod Serling, Ray Bradbury, Woody
Allen.... Radio plays are very
inexpensive to produce AND the actors do NOT have memorize their
scripts, they act while reading.
So, if you're quick to shake your head and dismiss radio theatre because you
love filmmaking, all I can
say to you is: HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE AND STILL KEEP BREATHING?
Because some
of the best writers in the world listened to and wrote RADIO PLAYS.
I am converting many of
my radio plays into SCREENPLAYS. In 2010, I'm launching my
own business "selling" my original
scripts to indie filmmakers AND leasing my plays to high schools,
colleges, theatre companies, etc.
I have two contracts that my entertainment lawyer and I co-wrote:
One to "sell" my original scripts to
independent film producers AND another contract to lease to clubs, churches, conventions, and organizations.
Take my very short play entitled: "The Day Music Lived". A radio play. A boring thing to some folks.
God forbid that you have to listen to a radio
play. With radio plays you have to scrape the rust off your
imagination and be attentive. It's not like television, where you
can plop your behind on the couch, set
your brain to automatic pilot and
stay their for 3 to 6 hours. Radio
theatre forces you to use your mind to
picture
what's happening.
Well,
here's the story of this radio play:
An alien being visits Earth because it's curious about music on Earth.
I have only one character in the play,
Earth's ambassador, who can be played by a male or female actor. You
can hear an excerpt of this radio
play on the LINK below. The full audio play is only 6 minutes LONG! How
long does it take to tell a
good story?
This play can work as animation or
an indie film
for those who can use their imagination!
Rod Serling said,"...You
un-lock this door with the key of imagination..."
