BELOW is the letter my favorite
author, Harlan Ellison, sent to me dated August 16, 2006.
I mailed Mr. Ellison an audio CD with several of my audio plays.
I especially
asked him to
listen to my audio play comedy based
on him entitled,"Harlan Speaks". I wrote,
produced,
directed, and acted in this audio
play (I play the part of Jerry Smith, the annoying
computer geek with the
Californian surfer-dude accent
who calls the character Harlan Elfson
at 3 AM
to
chat). It was my way of having a little fun with my favorite
writer.
Name of the audio short story (radio play):
"Harlan Speaks"
Scripted, produced, & directed by: Bradley Thunderbird Phoenix
Running time: Approximately 15 1/2 minutes long (this
is the full
version)
Credits: Harlan (Anthony Pomes), Jerry
(Bradley Phoenix), and Maynard (Philip Rogers).
BELOW
is the letter Mr. Ellison sent after listening to my audio play,"Harlan
Speaks",
scanned and placed on this web page for all to see.
It makes me feel good knowing that
Mr. Ellison's listened to one of my audio short
stories and liked what he heard! It's
one
of the greatest moments in my life.

BACKGROUND: My friend Paul, a
talented musician &
composer, sent Mr. Ellison one
of his music CDs. Mr. Ellison liked Paul's music. With
Paul's permission, he provided
music
from
his music CD as background music for two of my radio promo productions.
I don't think
Mr. Ellison was really mad at Paul. Ellison's the
teddy bear that likes to
growl. :)
I sent Octavia Butler, a
well-known African American fantasy writer,
a letter along
with some of my audio plays just as I did
with Mr. Harlan Ellison. I was hoping to
establish a rapport with Ms. Butler. I was
surprised and saddened to learn that
Ms. Butler passed away a few days
before I sent my cover letter and audio CD
to her. I figured it would take
3 days to get out to the state of Washington from
New York.
Unfortunately, making a connection with Octavia Butler was
just not
meant
to be.
I thank God I did reach Mr. Harlan Ellison.
